Pediatrics Q & A

What types of pediatric care are available?

Dr. Calonje provides pediatric care to children of all ages, from newborns to adolescents. He offers well-child visits, as well as appointments to deal with questions or concerns about a child’s health. Urgent care appointments are also available at this facility.

What happens during a well-child visit?

During a well-child visit, the staff at South Florida Sports Medicine and Primary Care will begin by measuring the child’s temperature, heart rate, blood pressure, weight, and height. Dr. Calonje will review all of these measurements to make sure the child is growing and developing properly. He will also perform a thorough physical exam and ask questions about the child’s habits and behaviors. If the parents have any questions about the child’s health or development, they can get the answers they need during this appointment.

In addition to evaluating the child’s health, Dr. Calonje will also recommend vaccinations during well-child visits. If a child is in need of vaccinations, a staff member can administer them at this appointment.

What happens when a child comes in with an injury or illness?

The beginning of a regular doctor’s appointment with Dr. Calonje will be similar to a well-child visit. A member of the staff will take the patient’s vital signs, and Dr. Calonje will perform an exam. Next, he will ask about the patient’s symptoms. Based on the information provided, he may order additional tests to diagnose the patient’s condition, such as blood tests, urine cultures, or throat cultures.

When should children see Dr. Calonje?

Children over the age of 2 should see Dr. Calonje for well-child visits once each year. Before reaching the age of 2, children will need to see the doctor more frequently. Dr. Calonje can provide parents of young children with an appropriate well-child visit schedule.

Children should also see Dr. Calonje whenever parents have concerns about their health or development.
